About

I grew up in Duluth, Georgia (USA), and studied electrical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. An interest in Europe led me to do my graduate work at Georgia Tech's European campus in Metz, France. Afterwards, I went on to work at the European Space Agency (ESA) in Darmstadt, Germany. Presently, I reside in Marbella, Spain.
Since 1997, I've founded and continue to run a technology company called MakaluMedia, which has built a diverse range of systems, from the control software running inside the satellite tracking system of the European Space Agency, to consumer web products for iconic brands like Google, Virgin America and O'Reilly.
My interests include product & user-interface design, entrepreneurship, finance & investing, cycling, hiking, traveling, and getting to know and experience different places and cultures. I particularly love hanging out in local cafes and terraces, enjoying the streetside lifestyle of southern Spain.
I'm currently a brown-belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art I've practiced and successfully competed in for about eight years.
I've been extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel extensively, live abroad and become fluent in a second language. It's amazing the perspective one gains from immersing oneself in other cultures. I believe the world would be a better place if more young people traveled and studied abroad, and this is an area in which I hope to spend some effort working, at some point in the future.
I hope you enjoy my blog. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or critiques you may have.
